Nepal’s Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli has resigned, says his aide, after three of his ministers quit following deadly protests over alleged corruption by the government.
Defying curfew, protesters stormed the office of the country’s largest party, Nepali Congress, and the residences of several prominent politicians, a day after security forces killed 19 people.
The main international airport has been partially shut. Al Jazeera’s Ramyata Limbu joins us on the phone from Kathmandu to discuss the latest developments (see above).
At least 19 people have been killed in Nepal’s capital during anti-corruption protests as well as a ban on major social platforms. The demonstrators say it’s a crackdown on free speech, disguised as safety legislation.
