Cheating the nation is no longer just corruption – it is betrayal. So stop diluting the language.

According to ongoing investigations, money was paid, but helicopters and warships never arrived as scheduled.

This is not ordinary corruption, but amounts to cheating the nation of its security. When a nation’s security is deliberately compromised, the words must change.

When defence funds are siphoned and military assets never materialise, this is cheating the people of Malaysia, deceiving the armed forces, lying in official reports and endangering national security.

When such lies move up the chain of command, it becomes something far more serious: betrayal.

Military readiness reports do not disappear into thin air. They are written, verified, signed and presented. They move upwards to the highest authority.

The King has recently called military corruption the “tip of the iceberg” and urged further investigations, signalling concern at the highest level.

If assets paid for never arrived, as investigations suggest, then questions must be asked about what information reached the highest office.

Not just corruption

We must ask the uncomfortable question people in Malaysia are avoiding – should this be framed only as a corruption case?

This is not merely about kickbacks, overpricing and middlemen. Based on the scale of investigations now under way and the non-delivery of critical military assets, this appears to involve intentionally weakening the nation’s defence while pretending everything was fine.

Whether or not the law recognises it as such, the effect crosses from corruption into something that undermines national security.

If, as alleged, defence money was stolen and non-existent assets were reported as delivered, the result is the same – the nation is misled and the people are deceived.

The law may call it corruption. But the effect on national security deserves a weightier name.

Who bears the risk? Not the elites, contractors and middlemen. The risk is carried by soldiers on patrol, pilots without aircraft, sailors without ships and ordinary people who believe their borders are protected.

That is why this crime is heavier than corruption. It endangers lives.

Silence then is complicity now

Where were the guardians of sovereignty then? Where were the loud patriots? Where were those who weaponised “loyalty to King and country” in every other debate?

Why were questions shut down? Why were critics branded as anti-national? Why was scrutiny treated as betrayal whilst real betrayal went unchecked?

Let it be asked clearly, without fear or politeness – if the allegations being investigated prove true, should stealing defence funds and lying about military readiness be treated the same as stealing development funds? What does that say about how seriously we value national security?

And one more question, unavoidable, necessary and uncomfortable – if investigations reveal that critical defence assets were paid for but never delivered, while official processes continued as though everything was in order, who bears responsibility for that failure?

This is not about politics or revenge or taking sides. This is about truth.

Corruption that weakens defence is no longer just corruption. It is cheating the people, deceiving the armed forces and betraying the nation.

History does not forgive such acts – and neither should Malaysia.
