The Royal Commission of Inquiry report into Tabung Haji’s on its financial issues is finally public, some four years after it was completed.

The royal commission findings point to serious weaknesses in governance, financial management, and investment decisions. And the government is now considering stronger oversight, including regulation of Tabung Haji’s investments by the Securities Commission.

But is stronger oversight enough to prevent history from repeating itself? Astro Awani’s Melisa Idris talks to Aliran member and political economist Edmund Terence Gomez, an emeritus professor of political economy at the University of Malaya, who has long researched the linkages between politics, policies and enterprise.
