Ban All Nuclear Weapons

Aliran strongly condemns India’s latest nuclear tests, which has only heightened regional instability. It is an immensely provocative and irresponsible act that has undermined the stature of the new Indian government.

We condemn all nuclear tests, irrespective of who conducts them. But we are also bemused by the reactions of the major powers, whose hypocrisy over the tests has been evident. They condemn India’s nuclear tests while they themselves hoard a huge arsenal of nuclear weapons, which can destroy the planet many times over.

We call on the United Nations to demand that all nuclear weapons be wiped out. The focus should not only be on ending nuclear tests but, much more importantly, on banning forever the possession of all nuclear weapons.
