Aliran Media Statement

No Party-hopping

In the past certain unscrupulous and opportunistic candidates, after being elected on a particular party ticket, had party-hopped. Their unbecoming conduct not only disgraced them but, more importantly, betrayed the mandate of the electorate and frustrated the electoral process.

This kind of party-hopping undermines people’s faith in the democratic system and raises moral questions regarding integrity and character.

To prevent the erosion of democracy, Aliran would like all the candidates participating in the 10th general elections to solemnly and sincerely pledge to the electorate every time they speak at ceramahs that they will not betray the trust of the people and if they feel compelled to switch parties for whatever reason they would vacate their seats as honourable men should.
