SAVE Rivers is proud to announce that our first national road show takes place today, in the capital city of Malaysia.
We will be visiting supporters and other affected communities around West Malaysia who face a similar fight in saving their homes and protecting their environment from destructive industries.
Like the indigenous peoples of Sarawak facing the 12 planned mega-dams, these communities have not been consulted as per the Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) on major decisions affecting their livelihoods and their lands. We hope to share experiences and exchange lessons learnt while campaigning to save our lands and territories.
SAVE Rivers in particular would like to take the opportunity to educate West Malaysians on the planned destructive impact of SCORE – the so-called Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy that does not promote renewable energy by introducing mega-dams that would destroy forests and lands forever, and with the intention that these mega-dams power very polluting industries such as aluminium smelters, coal-mining, etc. This would affect not just indigenous peoples in the rural areas, but also ordinary Sarawakians living in towns.

It is time that Sarawakians, and rest of Malaysians learn what is happening in their backyard, and be empowered to act upon this injustice. Our hope for this roadshow is that fellow Malaysians would rise up together and say to the government, NO to mega-dams and polluting industries in Sarawak, and YES to transparent public decision-making on developmental projects.
As well, SAVE Rivers is officially launching our song-writing competition, whereby the winning song would be produced in a CD for further fund-raising and public awareness of our campaign. For more details, please visit our blog:http://saveriversnet.blogspot.com/
