A Sarawak group has lodged reports with the police and the MACC, urging them to probe the former chief minister for alleged corruption and abuse of power, reports Abun Sui Anyit.
MIRI – Thirteen members of the Sarawak People’s Movement or Gerakan Anak Sarawak (Gasak) have lodged separate reports to the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on the alleged corruption and abuse of power of the current Sarawak governor, Abdul Taib Mahmud, during his tenure as Sarawak’s chief minister and minister for resource planning and management.
Gasak spokesperson Romould Siew headed the delegation to lodge the two reports on 3 November morning at the Miri MACC branch office and the Miri Central Police Station.
In the report, Siew stressed that the police and the MACC should investigate and take action immediately on the allegations as written in the 300-page non-fiction paperback book as this involves not only the reputation of the present governor but also the government of Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole.
According to Siew, “until today, Taib has not issued a formal denial or instituted legal proceedings against the book’s author, Dr Lukas Straumann or its publishers, which … lends credence that Taib is trying to hide something from the public.”

The book’s author has singled out Taib Mahmud as (allegedly) the “kingpin of the Asian timber mafia” who, during his tenure as Sarawak’s chief minister and minister for resource planning and management, had (allegedly) profited and enriched himself and his family members to the tune of US$15bn or RM50bn.
The book shows how Taib Mahmud managed to dominate politics in Sarawak for over three decades and how he abused his public office to exploit Sarawak’s natural resources and turn his family into billionaires.
“It has always been an open secret that Taib and his family members have been enriching themselves through Sarawak’s lucrative logging industry while he was still in power.
“However, it (was) very difficult to find concrete evidence to link him and his family members to the corruption and abuse of power that were done.
“Now with this detailed and meticulously researched book, the authorities should not find excuses that there is no evidence to prosecute Taib,” explained Siew.
The book has already been launched in Malaysia and is set to hit the bookstores soon.
The book was also due to be launched internationally on 3 November at the 50th Session of the International Tropical Timber Council in Yokohama, Japan.

The (people) mentioned herein are able to get away with anything, as evident over the last few decades. These are because of the need for their support to stay in Putrajaya by all the Umno dorky and schmucks. This is a typical example of ‘you scratch my back and I scratch yours’.
As a consequence those concerned have become some of the richest men in the world while the nation is getting heavier in debt and I might even add this about to go bankrupt or has it already gone bankrupt if a lot of the debts are not being hidden or manipulated.
The only way out of this shamble is to have these (people) kicked out of Putrajaya in the coming GE and have them (and)… the repugnant … Mahathir…. The other organisations to be revamped immediately are the police and the MACC.
That does not mean all the other organisations well known for their connections, as Umno lackeys should be left out. We may need to build a much bigger prison just to house these ‘rich men of the world’…
