Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) welcomes the decision by the magistrate’s court to acquit Lena Hendry.
It wishes to extend its warmest regards and congratulations to Lena Hendry and Pusat Komas for their dedication to the human rights discourse and for their unwavering spirit in the face of adversity.
The harassment and intervention initiated by the Film Censorship Board’s enforcement officers on that night was excessive and unjustified. The ill-advised arrest and subsequent prosecution only reinforce the perception that the authorities were irrational and paranoid when it came to discharging their duties.
Fortunately, the decision by the magistrate’s court effectively puts an end to this sordid affair.
Pusat Komas’ dedication to the betterment of human rights in Malaysia was put to the test in this series of events, and it has clearly shown all Malaysians its dedication and courage in championing human rights!
Suaram offers its salutations for the contribution by Pusat Komas to our struggle for human rights and wishs Pusat Komas similar success in its future endeavours.
Sevan Doraisamy is executive director of Suaram.
