The Malaysian Bar welcomes the Ministry of Human Resources’ expansion of the Mobile Labour Court (Mahkamah Buruh Bergerak), a significant step towards improving access to justice for workers nationwide.

It also welcomes the announcement by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (for law and institutional reform), Azalina Othman Said, who heads the legal affairs division of the Prime Minister’s Department (BHEUU) that the Justice on Wheels programme will be expanded to the peninsula.

The programme, already in operation in Sabah and Sarawak, has received support from Chief Justice Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh and ensures that court and legal aid services reach communities with limited access to justice.

The Malaysian Bar further notes with appreciation BHEUU’s initiative to include facilities such as a child witness room within the mobile court, enabling children to give evidence in a safe and supportive environment. This reflects that justice can be both effective and compassionate.

The Malaysian Bar fully supports these efforts, which bring the justice system closer to the people it serves. The Malaysian Bar stands ready to work with the government and all relevant agencies to ensure these mobile justice initiatives are implemented successfully.

These developments mark meaningful progress in strengthening access to justice and reaffirm the shared responsibility to make justice in Malaysia not only a principle, but a lived reality for all.

Mohamad Ezri Abdul Wahab is the president of the Malaysian Bar.
