The Aspirasi Rakyat forum held at MIECC Seri Kembangan on Sunday, 6 May 2018, was successfully carried out with the participation of 14 civil society groups and hundreds of patriotic Malaysians, reports Persatuan Patriot Kebangsaan.

Each group contributed the aspirations of its own group as well as its aspiration for the coalition that forms the next government. Patriot, as the organising groupor the forum, will compile and summarise the aspirations from all the participating groups, which will then be presented to next government.

The communique

We, the members of all NGOs and groups participating at the Forum Aspirasi Rakyat held at MIECC, Sri Kembangan, Selangor on 6 May 2018, resolved as follows:

Today marked a very important milestone: the get-together of several prominent NGOs, groups, and patriotic Malaysians, in solidarity, expressing the wish to see a harmonious, prosperous, and progressive Malaysia.

As patriotic Malaysians, we have decided to dedicate ourselves to help realise a better society, a better nation, and a strong desire to help make Malaysia great again.

We wish to see:

  • the return of the Rukunegara as guiding principles in governance, administration, and daily interaction among all people in our country.
  • a stop to the use of racial sentiments to provoke and instigate hatred, suspicion and distrust.
  • a curb on religious extremism. Religion should be used as a basis to promote understanding, compassion, care, and love, and not as a tool for division and hatred.
  • free mass media (print, online and broadcast): their operations must not be curtailed or muzzled.
  • checks and balance among the institutions of government to ensure transparency and accountability in governing the country and to prevent abuse of power especially by ministers. Towards this end, Parliament, the judiciary and the civil service must play their role to check on the excesses of government policies, especially those affecting our constitutional rights and liberties.
  • free and fair elections for Malaysians. The Electoral Commission must be truly independent of any political influence. Towards this end, the government should introduce reforms on political financing aimed at removing the influence of money politics, cronyism and corruption in our political culture.
  • freedom among academics and institutions of higher learning to express progressive thinking. A culture of constructive criticism, scientific thinking, and research should be encouraged.
  • every Malaysian, irrespective of race, religion or social standing, being made to feel important and needed. It is for a better tomorrow, when where every son and daughter of this beloved country of ours can proudly call Malaysia our home.
