It is with grave concern Patriot examines the breaking news of a long time industry tyre giant closing its doors in Malaysia.
This new has spread on social media and ignited deep-seated concern among the people, including other industrial investors.
Former ministers – like Rafidah Aziz, who had done much in the past in terms of foreign investments – have expressed thoughtful concern too.
Patriot calls upon the leadership and the government of the day to address this concern, including the layoffs of some 500 employees. There is also concern over the ripple effects that the closure will have on related industries that thrived on the Goodyear manufacturing business.

Patriot reiterates the adage that a bird in hand is worth two in the bush, given local and global economic trends and prevailing geopolitical tensions.
Patriot recommends that the leadership and government must ensure that we enable investors who have already stayed with us these past decades to expand here.
It needs no novel ideas to keep those who are with us happy and confident to stay rooted. We need to see the big picture and work with our partners to secure economic wellbeing.
What is discouraging and dampening is when investors and industry captains who were here for decades uproot for greener pastures.
We need remedies. And they better be fast.
