Patriot would like to see politicians involved in this power struggle behaving in a manner worthy of the people’s respect, trust and support.
Of late there have been calls by some quarters to set a definite time frame for Dr Mahathir Mohamad to hand over the reins as prime minister to his anointed successor.
There are also others who have voiced their support Dr Mahathir to complete his full five-year tenure as PM.
What is more worrying is that the intensity of the ongoing power struggle and the issue of succession appears to have overshadowed our reform agenda.
Patriot regrets that this has to happen. It is not only an unnecessary and damaging distraction but also a betrayal of the rakyat’s hope and aspirations.
We further note that in their quest for positions and power certain politicians have stooped to gutter politics. This is highly unethical. They are arguably as bad as the kleptocrat Barisan Nasional politicians.
Like the majority of people who voted and threw our support behind Pakatan Harapan under Mahathir’s leadership, we did that with the understanding that it would overthrow the kleptocrat BN government and to carry out the necessary reforms to get the country back on track again.
Patriot would like to see politicians involved in this power struggle behaving in a manner worthy of the people’s respect, trust and support. They should instead fully focus on their respective portfolios and responsibilities and fulfil their promises of reform as expected by the rakyat who voted them in.
Patriot believes the problem does not lie with Mahathir as he has repeatedly said he would hand over the reins when the time is suitable. Patriot understands that the PH presidential council has already made a decision on leadership succession, and will respect that.
Any attempt at horse-trading in the PM succession will be viewed with contempt.
