The Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) urges the people of Malaysia not to be drawn into unnecessary outrage over the recent incident of the Malaysian flag being accidentally displayed upside down.
The person responsible has acknowledged the mistake and issued an apology. That should be sufficient.
It is deeply troubling when such matters are seized upon and politicised, turning an honest error into an opportunity for harassment or bullying.
Inflaming racial or communal sentiments over what is clearly a mistake serves no one and only undermines social harmony.
As a nation, we face urgent and complex challenges such as labour shortages, rising inflation, uncertainties in our food supply, and unemployment.

These demand our energy, focus and unity far more than the vilification of individuals over minor missteps.
We should correct such errors, accept apologies given in good faith, and move forward together.
