Hanya 15.6% menteri wanita dalam kabinet Muhyiddin (Malay/English)

[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Dengan cara kerajaan kini dibentuk, cakap-cakap mengenai perwakilan seolah sia-sia sahaja.

Namun begitu, kami [daripada Pertubuhan Pertolongan Wanita (WAO) ingin menyatakan kekecewaan kami terhadap kurangnya perwakilan wanita – hanya 15.6% sahaja wanita yang dilantik menjadi menteri.

Rakyat telah mengundi untuk perubahan. Dalam dua tahun yang lalu, pelbagai perubahan telah dirancang dan hampir dibentangkan di Parlimen. Kabinet baru ini perlu memaklumkan kepada kita rancangan mereka untuk menyambung usaha-usaha ini.

Perubahan-perubahan ini termasuklah:

  • Akta Gangguan Seksual dan Akta Kesamarataan Gender (diketuai oleh Kementerian Pembangunan Wanita, Keluarga dan Masyarakat)
  • pengenalan tujuh hari cuti paterniti dan peruntukan anti-diskriminasi dalam Akta Kerja (diketuai oleh Kementerian Sumber Manusia)
  • pengubalan undang-undang anti-menghendap (diketuai oleh pejabat menteri undang-undang)

Perubahan-perubahan ini akan menambahbaik hidup jutaan rakyat Malaysia dan perlu untuk diteruskan.

WAO’s response to the cabinet announcement

With the way the government was formed, talking about representation seems hollow.

Nonetheless, we [from the Women’s Aid Organisation] are disappointed to see that women continue to be under-represented – only 15.6% of ministers are women.

The Rakyat voted for reforms. And in the past two years, various reforms have been developed and were close to being tabled in Parliament. The new cabinet must now tell us how they intend to continue these efforts.

These reforms include:

  • the Sexual Harassment Act and the Gender Equality Act (led by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development)
  • the introduction of seven-day paternity leave and anti-discrimination provisions in the Employment Act (led by the Ministry of Human Resources)
  • the enactment of anti-stalking laws (led by the law minister’s office)

These reforms would improve the lives of millions of Malaysians – and must persist.
