Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) take notes of the police report lodged by Kangar district police chief Wari Kiew against Suaram executive director Sevan Doraisamy under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.
The report lodged by the district police chief can only be described as an attempt at intimidation and a waste of police time and resources – as attention ought to have been given to the allegation of misconduct and not those who reveal it.
The district police chief’s conduct stands as another sterling example of why an independent police complaints commission is sorely needed to bring integrity and accountability to the police force.
Bukit Aman must take charge of the investigation of the possible police and the police report lodged by the district police chief – as there is substantial doubt as to whether the Kangar district police and the Perlis contingent will be able to investigate both matters without bias.
Irrespective of the district police chief’s indiscretion, Suaram has consistently provided full cooperation with the police in all investigations and will continue to do so if they are conducted fairly and independently.

Suaram will also be raising the matter of intimidation and harassment resulting from the Kangar district police chief with the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) and the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission.
