We, the undersigned organisations, are deeply concerned over the extremely serious and dangerous escalation of recent conflict between the US and Iran.

Donald Trump’s reckless assassination of Qasseem Solemeini was an act of war and a provocation to escalate tensions in the region into another full-scale war.

Since 2018, the Trump administration has withdrawn from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action or Iran nuclear deal and reimposed sanctions on Iran.

Now it goes further by inviting military retaliation from Iran with the assassinations of Iranian top officials. Donald Trump even threatened to attack 52 targets in Iran and impose sanctions on Iraq.

We shall not forget that how the US-led war on Afghanistan and Iraq over the last two decades had brought extreme terror, devastation, misery and suffering to millions of people in the region. The war on Iran and another military conflict in Iraq will only exacerbate and worsen the situation.

We call for:

  • an end to the belligerent actions and war-mongering rhetoric coming from the US
  • the immediate withdrawal of US troops from Iraq
  • restraint on the part of both Iran and the US to avoid another war in the Middle East region
  • an end to sanctions on Iran
  • the closing down of all US foreign military bases
