The general election result is out, and the people have spoken. Persatuan Patriot Kebangsaan (Patriot) congratulates Dr Mahathir Mohamad and all the leaders of Pakatan Harapan for leading the people into a Malaysian victory.

It is indeed a victory long overdue – to give our country a chance to wipe off the shame, to renew and rebuild – and a new beginning.

National unity has been one of our main objectives. Patriot has for the last few months issued several statements expressing our desire and aspirations to see a harmonious, prosperous and progressive Malaysia.

On 6 May 2018, Patriot organised the Aspirasi Rakyat (People’s Aspirations) forum, and 16 civil society groups participated. Each group gave its own aspirations touching on what it aspired from the coalition that would form the next government. As patriotic Malaysians, all the participating groups have decided to dedicate ourselves to the cause of realising a better society, a better nation, with a strong desire to help make Malaysia great again.

This Malaysian victory is a new beginning, and it has to start with national unity. In the communiqué issued at the end of the forum, among other points, we resolved that every Malaysian, irrespective of race, religion or social standing, must be made to feel important and needed. It is for a better tomorrow where every son and daughter of this beloved country of ours can proudly call Malaysia his or her home.

Towards this end, Patriot calls on all Malaysians from Semenanjung, Sabah and Sarawak, to put our nation first, and help our new government in building our society and nation.

Much needs to be done to put right: worrying fiscal policy, climbing national debt, inter-ethnic distrust, religious bigotry, the decline in the standard of our education, wastage and abuse in governance, the plight of minority groups, and poverty among the rural and urban poor.

Let us all start to think as Malaysians first. Let us together make Malaysia great again.
