Patriot takes cognisance of the mounting concerns over eroding national unity.

Of late, we are witnessing various attempts to stall national progress and spike the people with divisiveness and religious sentiments that can easily inflame our multi-racial and multi-religious people.

Of particular concern is the dangerous playing with fire on the socioeconomic and socio-political frameworks as well as along religious perimeters.

Talk of a “Dubai move” has punctured various segments of society, including raising concerns in the business community.

The current hurt feelings choking social media over a statesman and former political leader’s tirade is an equally grave concern.

Patriot, whose members include a large number of retired military and police service personnel, do not think that all this – ‘spiking’, attacks, belittling and plotting – is doing any good for long haul-peace, harmony, progress and national unity.

Patriot recalls the many pieces of advice, warnings and hopes expressed by several rulers to not undermine national unity but to build on our national assets of a multi-racial, diverse and multi-religious population.

But it clearly appears that all concerns by civil society, all the advice and admonishments from our monarchs and all the warnings from learned quarters are being brushed aside as individuals, political party leaders and clusters of followers never fail to keep rigging the nation along racial, religious and cultural perimeters.

This must cease and cease immediately.

The current “Madani” (civil and compassionate) government is obligated to muster all its strength to drain and plug anything and everything that afflicts our nation’s future or undermines our efforts to build national unity.

Politicians need to be given an ultimatum. They need to be warned that as MPs they can and should [raise their concerns] within the august house of Parliament for better governance if they smell a fault and not use coup attempts to crash through the gateway of democracy.

Traitors living away from our shores must be negated from their conspiring attempts to puncture our national efforts to sustain unity and peace.

Patriot deems that national unity, peace and harmony are non-negotiable and supersede all other agendas our nation needs in this climate filled with local and global ongoing concerns.

As the geopolitical environment becomes more unpredictable, national unity is our only line of defence and preparedness.

It cannot be sacrificed at any cost – not even side-stepped.

We call upon everyone – from rulers to commoners – to rise in solidarity, consistency and renewed strength to fight all those chipping away and destroying the peace and harmony much needed for our beloved country.
