A significant number of community members (totalling 2,501) residing along the proposed “PJD Link” highway alignment have participated in an independent social impact assessment for the project.
The organisers have released the survey results.
The social impact assessment was conducted by a group of concerned residents, including professionals with expertise in engineering, urban design and information technology. The group has also gained endorsements for the independent assessment from various residents’ associations, joint management bodies, management corporations and NGOs.
An overwhelming 93.6% of the respondents disagreed with the proposed highway, irrespective of their age, length of residence, or distance of their premises from the highway alignment.
Additionally, 93.6% of the respondents said they and their families would be affected by the project, with no variation based on age, length of residence, or distance from the highway alignment.

These findings clearly demonstrate that the highway project poses significant problems for the residents along its alignment. It is therefore crucial for the state and federal governments to listen to the communities’ concerns and refrain from approving the proposed highway.
The organisers conducted their own social impact assessment due to the lack of transparency regarding the official version. According to Malaysian law, only the environmental impact assessment is required to be shared with the public, while the traffic and social impact assessments are not.
The independent social impact assessment has been officially submitted to Plan Malaysia’s Selangor and Putrajaya headquarters (Jabatan Perancangan Bandar Dan Desa), and the Department of Environment (Putrajaya headquarters) has also received the report.
Communities along the highway alignment have witnessed a lack of transparency and clear communication from the state government regarding the project’s status. The impacts on residents, businesses and the environment have not been adequately addressed.
To date, residents along the alignment have organised at least three physical protests and numerous other large gatherings. Many communities feel that their voices have not been taken seriously by the Selangor state government.
The independent social impact survey was conducted online and offered respondents the option to participate in either Malay or English. Participants were provided with a link to the latest highway alignment map from the developer’s website.
