[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Kumpulan Rentas Parti Parlimen Malaysia (KRPPM) mengenai Pendanaan Politik telah membentangkan Rang Undang-undang Pendanaan Politik secara lengkap kepada umum pada 5 August.

– Ideas

Table political financing bill in Parliament now

The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Political Financing has just released the complete Bill on Political Financing on 5 August.

The bill was submitted as a private member’s bill to the secretary of the House of Representatives on 13 July 2022.

“We are encouraged to learn of the recent developments that support the tabling of a Political Financing Act. The announcement by Dato’ Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar that the special cabinet committee on corruption is drafting a policy scope for such a bill signals a positive commitment from the government on this matter.

“Recent indications of support from BN secretary general Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir and DAP secretary general Anthony Loke are also encouraging. We hope that with the release of this bill, a more meaningful discussion can be generated among the public on the need for transparency in political financing.

“Furthermore, we hope that the government will also make public any documents relating to a political financing bill and/or the bill itself if it exists,” Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, chair of the APPG on Political Financing said.

“We strongly believe that it is in the best interest of all political parties in Malaysia for this private member’s bill to be tabled and debated in Parliament. We also urge senior leadership in all political parties to lead the conversation on how greater transparency can be introduced in managing their party’s finances.

“Ultimately, a political financing act will level the playing field, professionalise politics and bring maturity to our political culture. We are encouraged by the recent positive demonstration of bipartisanship that has resulted in the anti-party hopping law, and we would like to urge similar actions from all political parties to introduce a political financing act to the benefit of all parties alike,” Ideas CEO Dr Tricia Yeoh said. – Ideas
