Over the years, ReformARTsi has been working on identifying the major gaps in the arts and culture sector, and demands that the prime minister and the cabinet take a holistic approach towards its development and prioritise its role in the national agenda by fulfilling the following five calls:
- Form a task force to design a 15-year national arts and culture blueprint. Artists and culture workers must co-lead and make up the majority of this taskforce and help design the blueprint to ensure it is effective.
- Strengthen arts education for all.
- Uphold artists’ and creative rights.
- Allocate 0.1% of the national budget for developing arts and culture.
- Have a dedicated ministry of arts, culture and creative economy.
As our society develops, ReformARTsi expects the government to evolve with the times and play catch up by recognising the importance of arts and culture in nurturing a creative and progressive society imbued with critical thinking skills – a society which upholds the values of inclusion and diversity in Malaysia.
We believe these five calls will put things in motion for cultivating a more robust and vibrant artistic and cultural life for everyone in Malaysia. – ReformARTsi
