Support police chief’s effort to end corruption in the force

Hamid Bador must be allowed the privilege to ensure that the top leadership of the police is in the hands of officers with integrity

Former police chief Hamid Bador made a bold allegation - THE STAR

Patriot salutes Inspector General of Police Hamid Bador for his relentless effort to end corruption in the police force.

The inspector general has made a bold move to expose the problem by speaking to the media. It shows his desperation and sincerity in wanting to clean up the image of the force, and he deserves all-round support.

The inspector general had made a commitment that the “blue code of silence” and the “culture of taking money from the bottom to the top for the IGP” must end.

He also alleged that there were efforts by a group of junior police officers linked to cartels to humiliate him and force him out.

The police chief’s allegation against an unnamed ex-inspector general is serious and cannot be ignored. He is only saying the obvious that is well known among members of the force but has been kept somewhat muted by the police leadership for reasons best known to them.

Patriot calls upon the entire leadership of the police force, and those who have retired to rally in support of the inspector general’s noble effort.

We also call upon every single citizen of the country, including right-minded NGOs, to voice their support for the inspector general openly in combating corruption at every level in the force and to return the force to its glorious past.

Following Hamid’s exposure, an article has gone viral, narrating in explicit detail the roles played by a number of named senior police officers, including an ex-inspector general, in soliciting money, purportedly from illegal sources.

The veracity of the article needs to be cautiously studied, and if those named in the article believe they have been wrongfully implicated, then they have every right to take whatever legal recourse needed to redeem their good name. Otherwise, a report needs be initiated to facilitate investigation.

Hamid’s tenure as police chief is fast coming to an end. He must be allowed the privilege to ensure that the top leadership of the police is in the hands of officers with integrity.

Patriot would like to remind those from outside the police force that the placement of officers is the responsibility of the inspector general, and it is decided in consultation with the respective heads of departments.

This is an internal matter that must not have outside interference, and certainly not interference from politicians.

Yes all concerned citizens need to give strong support to the IGP to clean up the police force. We are the ones who will benefit from a clean force so I see no reason why we should remain indifferent. Silence is not a option.

Hamid Bador’s effort is coming too little, too late.
Yes, I am one of those duped by the ex-dictator into thinking, Hamid is a good IGP choice.
2 years into his tenure and at its tail end, Hamid tells all and sundry about the cartels in the police force.
Patriot, please be honest with yourself, are the cartels in the police force really news?
At this stage, Hamid still dont want to name them. So, one more month what does he hope to achieve.
