In the light of today’s Johor state elections, Pusat Komas would like to remind the Johor voters to cast their votes wisely, based on the merit of the candidates, rather than their ethnicity or religion.
Pusat Komas’ racism reports have consistently shown divisive racial rhetoric peak during election periods, evidently as a tactic to skew the electorate.
Malaysia’s democratic foundations rely on candidates being judged on their manifestos and track record, rather than solely on ethnicity or religion, as purported by certain political actors such as Dr Mahathir Muhammad, Khairy Jamaluddin and Hadi Awang, who are echoing the same tune.
The foundation of our country is built upon the cooperation of everyone in Malaysia, regardless of ethnicity, religion or belief.
The Malaysia of today demands that political parties and candidates prioritise a “Malaysian-first” approach, serving all the people irrespective of ethnicity or religion.

We must abandon the outdated and dangerous ethno-political ideologies that threaten the political landscape of Malaysia and the world.
As such, Pusat Komas calls on all of us to band together in rejecting racial and religious politics from our democratic processes and vote on merit.
Happy voting, Johoreans! – Komas
