The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0), comprising 84 NGOs nationwide, is organising a sit-in at Dataran Merdeka on Saturday, 28 April at 2.00pm. Aliran is part of this coalition and represented on the Bersih 2.0 Steering Committee.
We encourage Malaysians to attend the event in KL.
However, for those who are unable to make it to KL, the Bersih Steering Committee has encouraged local groups to organise their own events simultaneously. We understand that groups in 41 towns and cities and 14 countries (as of 17 April 2012) will be holding their own events.
In Penang, local groups will be gathering at Speakers’ Square in the Esplanade next Saturday, at 2.00pm – at the same time as the KL event is being held at Dataran Merdeka. We intend this event to be very peaceful and hope for a large turnout.
There will be short speeches, chanting and other interactive activities. A local activist will read a sajak titled ‘Unggun Bersih’ (Cleansing Fire), specially written by Sasterawan Negara Pak Samad Said for Bersih 2.0, of which he is co-chairperson.
The Penang state government has given us permission to use the venue. We expect Chief Minister Tuan Lim Guan Eng to attend the event in Penang and to address the gathering.
We are informing the police about the event and seeking their cooperation to provide security.
We request those attending to dress in yellow and bring an umbrella.
We reiterate that we intend this to be a peaceful event and invite Penangites of all ethnic, religious and political backgrounds to attend.
See you and Duduk Bantah!

Anyone saying that DAP started the racial riots in 1969 does not have any idea what they are talking about. You can call it baseless talk.
I suspect kps and tun may be the same person. Same way of arguing and kps replied to the challenge by kh that kh directed to tun. We seem to have a loony running loose here.
Do we need to prove that the DAP is d most rascist party in point form? They were the ones who (allegedly) ignited the racial riots in May 1969 and just look at the way they go about endlessly bashing Malay UMNO, day in and day out. Do I need to say more?
any penang lang…pls come 2gether to support our Bersih3.0 at pg padang kota lama at this saturday 2pm
pray tell how DAP is the ‘most racist party’ . Please state your reasons in point form and provide at least 5 or more reasons you say it is so…
sprewing quotes like “chinese supremacist” doesnt count. state policies, actions, things they have done/doing that conform that they are racist… (i.e. descriminating people on the basis of race)
Francis, do u realise that wat u do is detrimental to the peace n security of this country stop play politic of racism umno bashing wen u know DAP is the most racist party in msia.. if ur sincere pls establish a policy to help poor malay n indian in penang tell DAP they cant go on being a chinese supremacist.. i dare u to speak the truth
Fyi the interested ppl @ social media sites are asking:
1. Are there any arrangements for safety e.g Unit Amal?
2. Where do they get the T-shirts?
Maybe should carry put up the info somewhere?
Thanks.
1. We have notified the police and have asked for their cooperation to ensure that peace and security is protected.
2. At the moment we don’t have the T-shirts but probably will be available on the day itself.
