Gabungan Pilihan Raya Bersih dan Adil (Bersih 2.0) menggesa pihak polis untuk segera menghentikan siasatan dan intimidasi terhadap gerakan mahasiswa daripada University of Malaya Association of New Youth (Umany).
Gerakan mahasiswa tersebut telah mengeluarkan satu kenyataan media bertajuk “YDPA should not interfere in national affairs” pada 31 Oktober 2020.
Berikutan kenyataan tersebut, pada 5 November, presiden Umany Robin Yap Wen Qing dan naib presiden Tan Li Yuan telah disiasat oleh polis dibawah Akta Hasutan 1948 dan Akta Komunikasi dan Multimedia.
Lebih teruk lagi adalah apabila pihak polis turut menggeledah rumah Robin dan merampas komputer riba serta telefon bimbit milik beliau.
Di dalam rakaman video yang diambil, pihak polis yang menggeledah rumah Robin tidak menunjukkan sebarang identifikasi sebagai seorang pegawai polis serta tidak memakai uniform.

Mantan presiden Umany, Wong Yan Ke yang merakam proses penggeledahan pihak polis juga telah dibawa ke ibu pejabat polis Petaling Jaya untuk disoal siasat. Pada 9 November 2020, enam lagi ahli jawatankuasa Umany telah dipanggil oleh polis untuk disoal siasat.
Bersih 2.0 mengutuk sebarang tindakan daripada pihak berkuasa yang ingin menghalang rakyat daripada bersuara dan melontarkan pandangan secara sihat terhadap isu-isu yang berlegar dalam negara.
Penggunaan undang-undang terhadap pihak yang hanya bersuara menggunakan pena adalah satu bentuk intimidasi dan bercanggah dengan prinsip hak asasi manusia. Perkara 10 Perlembagaan Persekutuan juga dengan jelas membenarkan rakyat untuk melontarkan pandangan dengan bebas.
Bersih 2.0 juga melihat tindakan pihak polis yang hanya memanggil mahasiswa yang bersuara sebagai satu tindakan yang berat sebelah kerana Yang di-Pertua Dewan Negara Rais Yatim juga telah mempersoalkan perkara yang sama dalam ciapan Twitter beliau pada 26 Oktober 2020. Sekiranya membangkitkan dan membincangkan sesuatu isu berkaitan perlembagaan tidak bersalah untuk Rais, maka pihak polis juga perlu menghentikan segera siasatan terhadap mahasiswa-mahasiswa Umany.
Bersih 2.0 sekali lagi menggesa pihak polis menghormati hak rakyat untuk bersuara dan memberhentikan sebarang siasatan terhadap mahasiswa tersebut dengan segera. Intimidasi seperti ini hanya membazir masa dan sumber oleh pihak polis yang perlu disalurkan terhadap kegiatan jenayah yang lebih membahayakan keselamatan rakyat dan negara.

Stop police intimidation against students, defend freedom of speech
The Coalition of Clean and Fair Election (Bersih 2.0) urges the police to immediately stop the investigation and intimidation against student activists from the University of Malaya Association of New Youth (Umany).
The student movement had issued a media statement entitled “YDPA should not interfere in national affairs” on 31 October 2020.
Following the statement, on 5 November 5, Umany president Robin Yap Wen Qing and vice-president Tan Li Yuan were investigated by the police under the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act.
The police also searched Robin’s house and confiscated his laptop and mobile phone. In a video recorded, the police who searched Robin’s house did not show any identification as a police officer and did not wear a uniform.
Former Umany president Wong Yan Ke, who recorded the police search process, was also taken to the Petaling Jaya police headquarters for questioning. On 9 November, six more Umany committee members were called by the police for questioning.
Bersih 2.0 condemns any action from the authorities that impedes the people from expressing their views peacefully on issues in our country. Enforcement of the law against those merely voicing out their opinions is a form of intimidation and contradicts human rights principles. Article 10 of the Federal Constitution clearly guarantees people’s right to express their views freely.
Bersih 2.0 also views the action of the police in calling only students for investigation as a biased action: Senate President Rais Yatim had also questioned the same thing in his Twitter post on 26 October 2020. If by raising and discussing an issue related to the Constitution is regarded as legitimate for Rais, then the police should also immediately stop investigating Umany students.
Bersih 2.0 once again urges the police to respect the people’s right to freedom of speech and stop the investigations against the students immediately. The intimidation is a waste of time and police resources that should be channelled to fighting criminal activities that endanger the safety of the people and the country.

It is obvious the police under this backdoor govt.has reverted to the bad old days…it believes it is a force unto itself. It is abusing the laws of the land to intimidate activists and dissenters who do not agree with the backdoor govt.
