In response to Johor Pakatan Harapan’s recent exposé yesterday on the dubious voter details of Johor Menteri Besar, Khaled Nordin, among hundreds of others, Bersih 2.0 maintains that his voting details in the electoral roll are flawed.
Khaled’s identity address should be that of his residence, not his office. By changing the details of his identity card to his office address, he is in violation of:
a) the identity card registration process. According to the Registration Deparment’s regulation:
Mengikut Peraturan 15, Peraturan-peraturan Pendaftaran Negara 1990 (Pindaan 2001) setiap orang yang memiliki kad pengenalan dan bertukar tempat kediaman ke suatu tempat yang seseorang itu akan tinggal selama tempoh 90 hari atau lebih hendaklah membuat gantian penukaran alamat pada kad pengenalan.
This means it is unacceptable to have an office address for identity card registration.

b) In the same vein, as all voters’ registration needs to follow the address in the identity card to reflect residence, it is already a mistake for the Electoral Commission to have registered Khaled as a voter using his office address.
Bersih 2.0 questions Khaled’s intention behind registering under an office address, opening up the process to further abuse by registering more voters in one address or in marginal seats in order to gain more votes.
The other shocking issue is that the office address has 13 other voters already registered including Khaled’s son, Akmal Saufi. This is an outright manipulation of the electoral roll and obvious abuse of power as he is taking advantage of the Electoral Commission’s weak electoral processes for his own interests.
It is disturbing to know that a menteri besar is so ignorant of the electoral and registration processes in Malaysia. It is unacceptable that the commission is allowing such abuses to happen.
The Electoral Commission must take responsibility and immediately correct the situation. Bersih 2.0 strongly recommends that Khaled leads by example to correct his identity card address and re-register himself as a voter. The same goes for his son and the other voters registered in the same address.
Let us keep our elections clean and fair.
