Maria Chin Abdullah is being held in solitary confinement in a 15 x 8 cell with two light bulbs turned on 24 hours. Cell has no windows, no bed, only cement floor and a hard slab of wood. She described it as ISA-style detention.

We showed her pictures from Bersih 5 yesterday and she was very happy. She commends everyone for courageously standing up to tyranny.

Maria was finally able to see her family and her lawyers earlier. She is in good spirits and calls on all to continue fighting for institutional reforms.

Lawyer Eric Paulsen was reported as saying that Maria would be detained for 28 more days under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012, or Sosma – which replaced the ISA – in addition to the initial 24 hours since Friday afternoon.
