[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Gabungan Bertindak Malaysia (GBM) meminta warga Malaysia untuk mengekalkan jarak sosial masing-masing semasa perintah kawalan pergerakan bersyarat yang bakal bermula pada 4 Mei 2020.

Malaysians must keep to stringent social distancing under conditional movement control order

Gabungan Bertindak Malaysia (GBM) urges Malaysians to practice stringent social distancing after the lockdown is much eased under the conditional movement control order starting 4 May.

GBM urges the government to consider the call from civil society for the conditional movement control order to start after 12 May so that they can properly prepare for the upcoming situation.

GBM cautions Malaysians that the outbreak may re-surge and strike even harsher after initial containment. A case in point is Japan’s Hokkaido, which has returned to lockdown 26 days after lifting it.

If the conditional movement control order starts as announced on 4 May, GBM urges Malaysians to work together so that this easing of lockdown will not be rescinded. Restrictions on certain activities such as social activities (marriage ceremonies, birthdays, open houses), religious activities (mass prayers, mass sermons, religious celebrations), formal educational activities (forums, seminars, congresses) and political activities (peaceful assemblies) must be fully adhered.

GBM reminds Malaysians that social distancing is for everyone’s safety much like the traffic ruling on wearing seat-belts or helmets. Even if enforcement of social distancing becomes less effective after 4 May, Malaysians must still do it voluntarily to protect themselves and their loved ones.
