The British High Commission hosted a ‘Chevening Talk Series – Penang showcase’ in partnership with Penang Forum on Saturday, 24 February, from 10.30am to noon at Black Kettle @Beach Street, George Town, Penang.

The theme was Sustainable Urbanisation – a Myth or Reality?

The panellists were Zairil Khir Johari, Penang DAP vice chairman and Bukit Bendera MP; Surin Suksuwan, regional director of Proforest South East Asia; Andrew Ng, independent documentary filmmaker; and Khoo Salma, heritage activist and Penang Island City Councillor.

The talk show covered the Penang state government’s initiatives towards a more sustainable, inclusive urbanisation; the importance of ecological sustainability; the role of youth in shaping the sustainable development agenda and ways Penang can be made more culturally vibrant.

The session was moderated by Aliran activist and writer, Anil Netto.
