When theSun gets ‘covered’

While today’s Utusan Malaysia predictably ‘graces’ its front page with the photos of Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and his allegedly sodomised former aide Saiful Bukhari under the screaming headline, ‘Berlaku penetrasi’ (Penetration occurs), theSun soaks in a wrap-around of four pages of ‘advertorial’ about 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

It is most unfortunate that theSun chooses to give the impression to the reader that the various ‘news reports’ about 1MDB are indeed genuine reporting. This is of course far from the truth!

What the popular tabloid should have done, ethically, is to indicate on the pages of the wrap-around the contents of those pages are actually part of an ‘advertorial’ and not the product of real journalism.

The real front page of theSun today, which is buried inside, highlights the achievements of our sportsmen and women at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games.
