Aliran is troubled by ex-premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s recent prediction in warning Prime Minister Najib Razak that Israel and the United States were “conspiring to cause a regime change in Malaysia through ‘a puppet government’ to be led by Anwar (Ibrahim)”.

This political ‘forecast’ has serious implications and repercussions for the country. If there is any grain of truth to this international conspiracy, then our sovereignty, and political independence and security would indeed be in jeopardy.

The gravity and severity of this matter, therefore, demand that Mahathir presents incontrovertible evidence to support his allegation. This will enable Malaysia to safeguard itself and remain as an independent nation in the world community, without fear that it would be transformed into a “client state” of the US or any other world powers for that matter.

Mahathir’s honest response would enable Malaysians, particularly their leaders, to take the necessary steps available in order to safeguard the country’s independence and sovereignty.

Mahathir’s allegation has implications for those voting in the forthcoming general election. They need to make an informed choice based on all available information, including his allegation, so that they can vote into power a group of politicians who really have the interests and concerns of the people and the nation close to their hearts. When such information is available, it would prevent them from voting in political leaders who would eventually colonise their minds and shackle their freedom of expression, assembly and association.

But if the former prime minister fails to convince ordinary Malaysians – with evidence – of this supposedly impending political catastrophe, then his cautionary call can only be interpreted as a desperate attempt to derail the democratic process of Malaysian citizens to vote for any political party of their preference, and for a meaningful change in their collective life.

Worse, it can also be seen as a calculated and mischievous attempt to equate the federal opposition with things that are evil. In short, to demonise the Pakatan Rakyat alliance – the members of which are legal entities – with baseless allegation is a despicable act that must be condemned without reservation.

We call upon Mahathir in all fairness to furnish Malaysians with some evidence pertaining to this serious matter. Otherwise, his prediction is as reliable as crystal ball-gazing.

Dear Malaysians, We have sen many moves by the BN government showing inclination to US superiority. The ban of Iranian Weapon display in KL 2 years ago is one. Our leaders were mute when US submarine out of the blues showed up in the St. of Malacca, in fact BN welcomed it. If this happened in China’s territory that submarine will be blasted off. There is no issue here, why should be go against the ‘Durian’ since we are just a ‘Timun’. Diplomacy is the best policy and we have to be truthful to ourselves in any moves we made and sincerely stated our basic principals and our basic rights. America and the Jewish state are here to stay for a very long time since the Jew controls 2/3 of the American senate and even Barak Obama currently seen as a puppet president. Many of his pledged issues were not fulfilled and he has taken an alternative path instead of the path he pledged prior to him winning the election. Malaysian must stay focus and vote wisely come GE13. Many issues are at stake and every… Read more »

To Manjit B. We must stop thinking in communal terms, branding people by race and religion. Look at the bigger picture and see the reality that there are Indian Muslims, Chinese Muslims and many others of the same religion but different ethnicity. So, get out of your opaque fish bowl and swim into the ocean, you’ll discover many things you never knew. Open your mind to other possibilities. Islam is not exclusively for Malays neither are believers in Islam only Malay. In agreement with Aliran, the Malays actually have a longer history of activism in this country than many realize. It stemmed from their early political struggles amongst themselves and against external foreign powers. The BN government has shrunk the brains of many of the Rakyat to maintain it’s colonial style divide-and-rule tactic to cover massive corruption for its own profit and hegemony of political power. The Rakyat needs to change their communal mentality before reclaiming Malaysia for all Malaysians, regardless of race and religion and to counter the BN apartheid system of segregation by race and religion consolidated by Dr. M.

What “serious matter”? It’s only a serious matter if you take Mathathir Mohamad seriously. You’d be a lunatic if you did. By all means demand that Mahathir provide not “some evidence” but all evidence to back his looney accusations, which are pure lies — the stuff of his senile fantasy of his incurable compulsion to lie. Why are you worried that Malaysia may become a client state of the U.S.? Malaysia is already behaving like a client state of Saudi Arabia, which is far worse since this will allow the Saudi regime to export to Malaysia the worst aspects of his barbaric Wahhabist Islamic tenets to a growing mass of gullible and ignorant Malay Moslems, especially the younger set, most of whom study — get this — Islam for their ‘professional’ careers.

While Mahathir’s allegation may be taken with a pinch of salt, his deliberate demonisation of the opposition alliance is a serious matter and is more than mischievous as he in fact pooh-poohs the notion of a two-party system (sounds familiar, ain’t it?).

As to the client state poser, we are against any form of bullying from any world power.

Additionally, not many Malay-Muslims in Malaysia are as gullible and ignorant as you would like to think. That is gross generalisation which doesn’t do justice to many Malay-Muslim youths, who incidentally clamour for justice, freedom of expression and democracy.

… Again, as usual, he is doing everything possible for the opposition to take over Putrajaya. It would mean all the corruptions and atrocities … during the tenure of his rule will be reveal and exposed. As the present watchdog hasn’t got the gut to reveal the many ills …

That is why you need to vote for the opposition to have the many misdeeds of this real shenanigan revealed … With him around he will always divert your attention just so all (the) corruptions (under his administration) can be hidden.

So did Gaddafi …
