Why the delay in appointment of Selangor MB?

Malaysians are puzzled why Pakatan Selangor has not named the Menteri Besar of the state.

khalid ibrahim

The other two Pakatan governments in Kelantan and Penang have done so without any fuss thus reassuring the public that all is well in Kelantan and Penang.

The delay in Selangor would suggest that there may be problems in the choice of the MB. Malaysians fail to understand what problems there could be especially when two of the three Pakatan coalition partners have already given their consent to the appointment of Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

Pas secretary-general Mustafa Ali had categorically stated that his party would back PKR’s Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to be retained as the Menteri Besar of Selangor.

He had made it absolutely clear what the position of PAS is: “We have never claimed the post, nor do we intend to do so. We have decided to retain the existing MB (Khalid).”

Likewise, the DAP has made it abundantly clear who should be the Selangor MB. The DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said in a statement today: “Tan Sri Khalid should continue as Mentri Besar after leading PR to a resounding victory at the recent general elections by winning a two-thirds majority with 44 out of 56 state seats in Selangor from the previous 36 seats.”

Both these political parties echo the sentiments of the voters in Selangor and reflect the wishes of Malaysians.
Khalid Ibrahim had managed the state of Selangor brilliantly. The surpluses in the kitty speak volumes for his integrity, prudence, proficiency and efficiency in running the state of Selangor.

Without politicking, without bad-mouthing of his opponents in the BN, he had stood up for the people of Selangor in the water crisis; he had refused to appoint political cronies to positions of responsibility; he had solved the Talam controversy to the benefit of the state. In many other issues, he had been firm and courageous in his stand in defending the interests of Selangor and its people.

There had been no whiff of scandal or corruption under his watch. He has come across as a man who only serves Selangor without any self benefit. He is seen as a clean person that has enhanced the image of the Pakatan government in Selangor.

The astounding state results in the GE13 can be attributed to his standing in the eyes of the voters. No other state, either Pakatan or BN, has secured so many additional state seats compared to Selangor in the just concluded election.
This is all the more impressive especially so when the Prime Minister himself took charge of Selangor and poured everything into the campaign using the entire government machinery to win it back to BN but failed miserably. The voters in Selangor thumbed their noses at Najib simply because they were so convinced the BN can never outdo Khalid Ibrahim either in terms of performance or personal integrity.

There is a wide acceptance of Khalid’s leadership in Selangor. The Pakatan government cannot ignore this or dismiss it as irrelevant. If it does, it will be no better than the BN which overrides the people’s wishes without a second thought.

Aliran calls upon Selangor Pakatan to do the right thing and name Khalid Ibrahim as the MB of Selangor without any further delay.

The reason is because Azmin is trying to get the job! Now he and his cronies are trying to force Anwar to back him up! We Selangorains dont want Azmin as MB..We want Tan Sri Khalid

Mr. Ramakrishnan, You’d make a brilliant public relations consultant and would make tonnes of money. Rather Petra Kamaruddin has a rather interesting theory for the “Chinese tsunami” – i.e. UMNO LET IT HAPPEN as part of a longer term strategy to stay in power. http://www.malaysia-today.net/mtcolumns/56600-the-expected-happened In his article, RPK also mentions the “Azmin factor” and how it could lead to a defection which could even give BN a two-thirds majority:- “On another note, watch Selangor. There is currently a tussle going on between Team Khalid and Team Azmin for the post of Menteri Besar. I have, in fact, written about this a few times in the past.” Free Malaysia Today reports:- “Azmin, who was noticibly absent from Pakatan’s rally in Kelana Jaya last night, criticised his coalition for “dragging the rakyat into our own failure”. “The cry for reform has to start as a whisper within our own hearts. Don’t drag the rakyat into our own failure,” Azmin said yesterday in a tweet.” https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/nation/2013/05/09/azmin-slams-pakatan/ I used to call the Malaysian mainstream media “lie sheets” for reporting one-sidedly in favour of the Barisan Nasional government and I… Read more »
