The Prime Minister’s announcement that MH370 must have gone down in the southern Indian Ocean comes as a thunder-bolt – suddenly and shockingly.
After 16 nerve-wracking days of agonising waiting, this news has had a shattering effect not only on the families and relatives of the 239 on board the missing MH370 but on the entire country as well as on those who have been monitoring this episode world-wide. The faint hope and the remote possibility that the plane may somehow be found is now gone forever.
Our hearts reach out to the kith and kin of those who have lost their loved ones in this terrible tragedy. Words cannot adequately comfort them over their grievous loss. It is a very heavy burden to bear for the rest of their lives.
In all probability the plane and those on board may not be found. Where the plane is speculated to have gone down is an area known to be dangerous with gale-force winds and huge waves making it extremely hazardous to attempt a recovery. But we hope that the wind and wave conditions will change to permit a recovery, which is necessary for closure.
