Aliran condemns the dastardly attack on the son of Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli. No child should be subjected to such harm and trauma.
It is also deeply concerning, as Rafizi asserted, if the cowardly attack on an innocent child was meant to silence the outspoken politician.
No family members of any politician should be considered fair game by those who disagree with the views expressed by that politician.
The country would be on a slippery slope if such dark behaviour is not nipped in the bud. Such an act obviously undermines the rule of law and democratic practices.
In the past, there have been incidents where Molotov cocktails were thrown or red paint was splashed onto private property. These are sinister expressions of dissent.

The government must play a decisive role in preventing this decline of political culture into one of intimidation and thuggery. Swift action is needed to ensure such tactics do not become normalised.
To be clear, diverse views in a democracy should be welcomed. But they should be expressed in a civilised manner, not through violence.
Democracy cannot grow in a society where people resort to violence when faced with differing opinions.
