Aliran is deeply concerned with the ongoing land dispute between a group of farmers and Eadepro Development Sdn Bhd in Chepor Impian in the Kinta district of Perak.
The press have reported an incident this morning involving alleged encroachment of land, forced evictions of several farmers apparently without a court order, and the destruction of their cultivation.
We are also informed that police have detained eight people – four farmers and four PSM members.
This is a difficult time for everyone in the country, including these farmers.
Given rising food prices and the importance of protecting our food sources to ensure food security in the country, Aliran strongly urges that disputes such as these be resolved through negotiations and not through forced evictions and arrests.
