I am proud to announce that Myanmar, through the CRPH [Myanmar’s sole legitimate representative, the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, Myanmar’s legislature], has formally engaged the leading public international law firm Volterra Fietta to advise on and pursue international legal proceedings against the unconstitutional and illegitimate military regime responsible for the violent armed aggression directed against the people of Myanmar and their legitimate democratic representatives from 1 February 2021.
Such international law proceedings will take time but we will pursue them vigorously and steadfastly, so as to hold to account the perpetrators of these widespread and systematic human rights violations, including soldiers, police and common criminals. We are gathering large volumes of evidence for use in such proceedings.
Myanmar’s legal team is led by Robert Volterra, one of the world’s most respected public international law specialists, and Álvaro Nistal, who has advised numerous States and victims in relation to human rights violations. Volterra Fietta will support Myanmar’s efforts using the largest team of public international law experts in any firm in the world. They advise and represent States from every continent, in proceedings before the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Court and other international courts and tribunals.
Dr Sasa is the special envoy of the CRPH to the UN
AGENDA RAKYAT - Lima perkara utama
- Tegakkan maruah serta kualiti kehidupan rakyat
- Galakkan pembangunan saksama, lestari serta tangani krisis alam sekitar
- Raikan kerencaman dan keterangkuman
- Selamatkan demokrasi dan angkatkan keluhuran undang-undang
- Lawan rasuah dan kronisme
In this imperfect world, especially in Myanmar, we know the Tatmadaw believes that might is right.
So, I wish the CRPH well and hope their efforts will bear fruit…in time.
It is good that a public international law firm Volterra Fietta has agreed to advise the CRPH. Even as I am pessimistic if the military rulers of Myanmar will bother, yet I must hold on to any hope of pushing the military back to their barracks!!
