Prema Devaraj penned this poem to inspire more women to discover their inner strength and speak out against injustice.
Wake up my sister, open your eyes
The life that you have
What is it for?
Nurturing, caring, morality secure
Surely there’s more
Much much more
Wake up, my sister, open your mind
Why think you’re a half
Don’t you know you are whole…
Your essence your being
So far you can go
Why stay you silent ….wake up wake up
Wake up, my sister, your strength we must find
To break from these shackles
That continue to bind
Wake up, my sister, injustice is great
The truth must be told
Will you wake up and speak
Wake up my sister, change is a-waiting
Steps you must take
Must start from within…
Wake up, my sister, alone you are not
Your sisters and I
Are here by your side
Our arms will embrace you
Your pain we will share
Wake up, my sister, wake up…..
rise up
and
fly
