Over-the-top reaction to arrest of recalcitrant motorist

In a country where many appear to get away with their antics and offences, why focus on minor offenders, wonders Angry Malaysian.

I was flabbergasted to read about the arrest of a motorist who wrote some ‘offending’ words on a ‘summons’ received and allegedly yelled at the person issuing it.

I say this as the maximum penalty this motorist is facing is a non-custodial RM100 fine; so why arrest in the first place? Isn’t it over the top and could it be construed as being vindictive?

In a country where animal heads have been thrown into certain premises, where some have indulged in indecent ‘butt shaking’ at an activist’s home, where some have threatened to burn down buildings without serious action let alone arrest, why pick on this motorist who was perhaps just frustrated at having been caught?

How about the other day when someone turned up at the Selangor menteri besar’s office wanting to take a shower. If anyone had done this at the Pahang menteri besar’s office or at the prime minister’s office, one wonders what would have happened.

While it is correct for the summons to have been issued, why can’t the men and women in uniform take this as part of their work perils and just let it go. They don’t need extra protection from the state for cases such as this.

What is even more appalling is the powers that be reportedly now wish to waste a lot more taxpayers’ money to review these ridiculous laws to increase certain penalties.

Why the need for any review of such laws when (tongue in cheek) it looks like Sosma can be applied to all and sundry such as Maria Chin, Khairuddin Abu Hassan and Matthias Chang; so why bother with the piddly little obscure laws, hey?
