UTM culprit should face same consequences as Vivian Lee

The severity of the UTM case is far more than what Vivian foolishly did, says Wishful Accountant.

Why has the UTM person responsible for denigrating Hindus and Sikhs  not yet been arrested under the same charge as Vivian Lee.

After all if Vivian Lee was arrested under the charge of insulting and deliberately causing hurt to religious sensitivities, then the UTM case should also come under the same charge, right? The severity of the UTM case is far more than what Vivian foolishly did.

If an academic can’t research honestly and get the right answer or conclude correctly, how would one expect a young adult like Vivian Lee to behave appropriately?

If the proposed apology by UTM is considered a sufficient remedy, then why was Vivian’s apology not accepted, in all fairness?

In Vivian’s case, many police reports were made; so too in the UTM case where many reports were also made.

For those who are now urging that UTM be given a chance to explain, where were they when Vivian was arrested and sent to prison for six months for what was such a trivial matter. The UTM case is NOT a trivial one.

For the record, I don’t support any penal action in both these cases; this piece just seeks to highlight the different speed of action.

In the UTM case, I hope that bodies representing the Hindu and Sikh faiths will commence defamation action against the academic concerned and UTM. This is the correct way to ensure that half-baked academics will not defame the faiths of others.

Maybe the attorney general could also reconsider Vivian’s case as well.
