A person of the cloth must always be careful when it comes to religion, either theirs or others, says An Observer.
Surely, there must have been many like me who were disappointed to read about Perlis Mufti Dr Asri Zainul Abidin being involved in denigrating another religion.
A person of the cloth must always be careful when it comes to religion, either theirs or others.
Asri had always been looked up to as the voice of reason by both Muslims and those of other faiths. For him to descend into a mud-fight, trading insult and counter-insult with so many Hindus just to support one Indian is thoughtless and surprising.
Hopefully, this was because he got up on the wrong side of the bed the other day and lost his usual composed chain of thought and jumped on the bandwagon of the rest of the thoughtless lot. Hopefully, he will soon get back to his usual role of peacemaker and calmer rather than stirrer.

Even more amazing, a coalition of NGOs is demanding a return of the ISA just to act against those who have been campaigning against the man from India.
Why is it none of them has been campaigning to free their fellow brothers from various ‘non-criminal’ offences that, to me, seem more political in nature, right here in Malaysia?
Nevertheless, it is quite nice to see so many Malaysians supporting an Indian who apparently would be subjected to “torture” if he went back to India.
Hopefully, everyone always everyone remembers the advice from HRH the Sultanah of Johor that non-Muslims in this country deserve respect too.

The test of the pudding is in the eating. Asri failed the test of Muftiship. He should have first scrutinised the intentions of Zakir by watching all the U-tube videos of Zakir’s “comparative religion” lectures. Zakir Naik speaks bad about other religions. The kind of language Asri used in his “Friday Morning Poem” was the same kind of language that Zakir uses in his lectures. That shows he had been influenced by the words of Zakir about non-Muslims. … he jumped to his defence in the vilest language he could, claiming it was freedom of speech. A true Mufti should have never reacted this way.
