Swoop on alleged militants: Are Malaysian borders that porous?

How on earth were these alleged militants able to get into Malaysia and linger about until a special operation was needed to flush them out, asks An Observer.

I refer to media coverage of law enforcers hunting down foreigners with militant connections.

Contrary to what others may think, I am not even a tiny bit impressed with the arrest of foreigners with alleged militant links: if they really had militant links, they should not have been allowed into Malaysia in the first place. Why let them in and then swoop down on them?

How on earth were these alleged militants able to get into Malaysia and linger about until a special operation was needed to detain them? Isn’t that all a bit too worrying, leaving little room for comfort? Are our borders that porous?

All visitors entering Malaysia must have one of the many types of entry visa: work permits, calling visas or visitors from countries that do not need visas to enter Malaysia. But all these visitors have a finite period to remain in Malaysia. Once this period is up and if these visitors are still in Malaysia, there should be a systematic attempt to haul them up.

We are again going to spend millions to change the management system at immigration. How will this system be better than those in the past which also cost millions to taxpayers?

An Observer is the pseudonym of a casual follower of the non-stop shenanigans played out in the public sphere and at times can’t stop the urge to write and join in the merriment.
