Ros Gaya marvels at the extent to which some Umno supporters will go to display their loyalty to the party.
Umno supporters come in many shapes, sizes and forms. There are the smooth talking types, often donning Western style business suits or even bush jackets with Cheshire cat smiles for accessories. Some others prefer to accentuate their racial and cultural identities in no uncertain terms by donning a traditional Malay costume that is really quite elegant. Others feel they must add zest to their zeal by passing racially colourful comments while waving a traditional ‘keris’ in one hand or both.
Some feel it hip to show their posteriors to the Opposition occasionally, especially when they have obviously ample ones that will be noticed by the media. This posturing and posing of the Umno loyalists may seem to some of us rather foppish and dandifying but to those who assume these popular political postures, it means a serious political fashion statement.
There are also those who aspire to follow these trends by flocking to the standards of the trendsetters. Whatever their preferences, whether up-market or ‘casual-rakyat’, none can beat the unique ironic statement of a certain, now known Umno loyalist. This particular individual decided to set a new and unique trend in expression of his loyalty to Umno. He admitted being a staunch Umno loyalist but in the last general elections exercised his free choice by putting his money on the Opposition instead. Hopefully many more will imitate this expression of loyalty and good sense.
