The kopitiam sentiment is in favour of Anwar taking over as the next prime minister with PKR and DAP playing a major role, observes JD Lovrenciear.
The PKR deputy president’s moves of late have not been doing any good to Anwar Ibrahim and the party. It has also jeopardised the Pakatan Harapan coalition.
From various media reports, one thing is certain – and that is Azmin Ali is concerned about his own political rise.
The Bersatu party has not helped, having bestowed on him political clout as the “economic affairs” minister.
A word of advice gleaned from kopitiam (coffee-shop) chatter in towns – Azmin is perceived to be enlarging his aura of arrogance. This is not only detrimental to his own political ambitions but also gives the opposition bloc much-needed ammunition to tear holes in the PH government.

PKR had provided a renewed wave of hope among the masses with the prospect of Anwar’s hands-on leadership style.
At a time when the 1MDB debacle is the subject of a court battle with increasing drama and intensity, PH cannot maintain the Barisan Nasional-style of staying in power.
After all, it has potential leaders who can steer the nation consistent with the hopes of many Malaysians for a new Malaysia.
Consolidate. Converge. And recognise the ground sentiments which all point to Anwar as the next prime minister with PKR and the DAP playing a major role.
Anything other than this is going to be a blow for a nation still clinging to hope since the miracle of the 2018 general election.

Dr M talking about Cabinet reshuffle. In the case of the Ministry of Health, with all due respect to the present Minister of Health, the MOH will operate well if it has persons trained in public health at the helm (Minister and Deputy Minister) and able to overcome resistance from vested interests and negotiate lower drug prices (as done by Canada’s provincial govts, and the govts of New Zealand and the Netherlands).
Dr Jeyakumar Devaraj will be a fine Deputy Minister of Health (via appointment as
a Senator in the Dewan Negara).
Malaysia needs an Aneurin Bevan-type person (the Father of the National Health Service of the British polity) in charge on health policy.
