Stop the divisive politics that has been the hallmark of the past, writes JD Lovrenciear.
Dr Mahathir Mohamad seems to be saying some things that are not going down well among a growing number of Malaysians.
Someone needs to tell him that building a nation using the goodwill of all ethnic groups is better insurance for the future than telling us that “unqualified” immigrants were given citizenship; that Malays are lazy and what-not.
No Mahathir, stop walking down that thorny, reckless path of yours which many of us chose to forget and forgive when we cast our votes in the 2018 general election.
The future began after that election. We need to build on the strengths of every ethnic group in Malaysia. We need to nurture and strengthen the goodwill that is the hallmark of every ethnic group.

We need to share our strengths and blessings with the less fortunate – be it monetary, wealth, opportunities or abilities. That goes beyond ethnic-focused blinkers.
So please stop this divisive politics that has been the hallmark of the past.
There are many roads to achieve and taste lasting progress and development. But the worst route is to build a nation by strengthening one ethnic group against another, by undermining one against another, by sowing seeds of suspicion, distrust and anger towards the other.
Stop the neo-colonisation – the very poison you detested in your younger days.
