Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim thundered in support of the Palestinian cause at a rally in Bukit Jalil on 24 October.
The rally took place at short notice when the PM called on the people to assemble and send a message to the world that the people of Malaysia are indeed a caring lot.
But why did the PM declare the following at the mega-show of support for Palestine?
Support from Europe and the US, he said, had emboldened Israel’s actions. “It is a level of insanity to allow people to be butchered, babies to be killed, hospitals to be bombed, and schools to be destroyed… these are acts of barbarism.
“We observe that when Israel invaded Palestine, there was silence. What kind of justice is this? It’s the law of the jungle.”

There is nothing wrong in making the above declarations. Don’t get me wrong.
But why the silence on what Hamas did, at least in the media reports of the rally that I read? Please do not use the Palestinian cause as a bait to create disunity, suspicion and fear among Malaysia’s 33 million people.
The fact is the violence in this Middle East crisis affects not only Palestinians but also civilians on the other side as well. Remember too the wars and bloodshed taking place in other parts of the region.
We must harness and strengthen our resolve to promote peace and respond with humanitarian aid that knows no colour, race, religion or political affiliation.
