The Beach Boys 1971 ecological spin sings in my mind
About oceans, rivers touched by man who is blind
“The poison floating out to sea
Now threatens life on land,” you see
What’s that awful stench that stinks sky high?
Rotten eggs, pig s***, mud or sewage close by?
First peace and sleep blown asunder by the 24/7 racket
Then stress from the pollution that ratchets
Now the awful stench invades living spaces, permeating the air
And there’s nowhere to run to for a breath of fresh air!
Reduced to L Cohen’s Bird on the Wire
I wanna break free from a resort turned dire!
Poison poison fills the air from the East to the North and West!
Past midnight till morn my lungs are choked with no rest
As Greed of a RM60 billion project damned the sea off Straits Quay
Depriving me of peace and sleep, impairing my health with polluted debris
