A vote for Barisan Nasional is a vote for kleptocracy and the 'court cluster'

When Pakatan Harapan was elected in 2018, Anwar Ibrahim was waiting in the wings to be anointed the next prime minister – though that was conditional on Dr Mahathir Mohamad relinquishing the PM’s post.

By any measure of possibilities, those were the most ideal circumstances for Anwar to have been appointed as prime minister.

But that did not happen, owing to a web of political scheming by friends and foes that not only ousted a democratically elected government but also snatched the PM’s post from Anwar.

That was the most unscrupulous act of betrayal by those who were running with the foxes and hunting with the hounds.

Today, many are hoping for Pakatan Harapan to secure the required majority to govern the country for the next five years, with Anwar as prime minister.

That said, PH ought to recognise the likelihood that no single political entity is expected to secure an absolute majority to stake a claim to govern the country.

If this happens, we could see jostling for the numbers required to form the next government. In this scenario, it would be interesting to see whether PH can get the numbers to form the government – and to install Anwar as the next prime minister.

Voters have little option but to vote for PH in droves to ensure it wins an outright majority to form the next government. Remember, a vote for Barisan Nasional is a vote for kleptocracy and the ‘court cluster’ and a vote for PH is a vote for the transformation of the nation’s socioeconomic and political ecosystem.

As in 2018, we the people need to grab the opportunity to vote for PH. We need to place our trust in Anwar’s leadership to bring forth meaningful changes to our country.
