From tackling the high cost of living to reducing political patronage, the Anwar Ibrahim-led government is on a slippery slope.
The ‘unity government’ is a configuration of convenience among the political parties that seek relevance even though they were not independently accredited by the voters to be aligned to Pakatan Harapan.
So this multi-coalition government has to act with utmost care in pushing for structural changes. Any error of judgement will probably endanger this fragile ‘unity government’.
Anwar’s government is walking on a tightrope. It ought to be given the space to bring about transformation without undue pressure from a diverse segment of society. The irony is that such demands for changes are a consequence of Anwar, the standard-bearer of the Reformasi movement, helming the government.
Since taking office, the Anwar administration seems to have recognised the people’s concerns. The contemplated targeted subsidies for the vulnerable segment of society are a significant endeavour in these circumstances. Noteworthy too is the commitment to absolute transparency in awarding contracts to stem ‘leakages’.

The decision to end political appointments in government-linked companies is not only bold but appropriate, given that such appointments were often for political reward.
Rewarding inept political appointees with outrageous salaries and perks is not only nauseating but also a sin!
The Anwar-led government, within its limited time in office, has so far shown a willingness to challenge some of the status quo. Given the space, his government will strive to recalibrate the existing deficiencies embedded in our toxic political system.
All Anwar needs is the space to bring about meaningful transformation without undue pressure. Let us judge his administration over an extended period, hopefully, at the end of its tenure.

- Selamatkan demokrasi dan angkatkan keluhuran undang-undang
- Lawan rasuah dan kronisme
Yes but not overly optimistic as UMNO and BN can back-stabbed PH. This has already begun isn’t it?
