Go after the suspected plunderers

We hope that corruption will one day be a thing of the distant past

Consider crippling their financial capabilities by freezing all their assets, writes Dominic Damian.

Certain quarters who felt it was their ‘entitlement’ to allegedly plunder and embezzle the wealth of the nation are scoffing and thumbing their noses at us with their childish antics.

It is simply amazing that the stupidest most self-serving bunch of people in the globe were allegedly able to conduct such blatant, brazen thievery.

The complexity of the alleged crime can be seen in the intricate and intriguing web that drew in so many people. The mind-boggling fact is that the suspects were flaunting their wealth like trophies in every direction. Meanwhile, institutions and individuals were apparently enticed and compromised.

Now some quarters might want to make a movie out of what transpired, but it is going to be exceptionally difficult to secure the best actors and actresses. Nobody would want to be cast in a role of such amplified stupidity. They may have to get the real-life cast from Malaysia – but then again the fees could run into the billions and it could become the first trillion dollar movie!

So effective was the assault that it revealed how compromised our system and institutions had become. Many apparently decent well-placed and sufficiently educated individuals of considerable wealth appeared to move to the dark side. In the process, they revealed the dismal failure of previous governments – well before the Najib administration – which pursued polices which led to the rot.

Now some of these tainted individuals are audaciously trying to show the public they are champions of race, religion and royalty. But they themselves are compromised. Looking back, this should not come as a surprise as they held the reins of power to do anything they pleased.

We should insist that our government rectify any anomalies and inequalities in the dispensation of justice, if they exist. Some of the alleged perpetrators may have more than enough of public money stashed away somewhere, and their potential for mischief is well known.

Act early and clearly with a well-defined purpose. Don’t be on the defensive but go on the offensive. Some of the suspects may be blatantly using money stolen from the public to sow mischief. They may even be trying to destabilise the nation.

So go after the suspects and apply the full weight of the law on them if there is enough evidence. If the laws are inadequate to prosecute them effectively, come up with new laws in Parliament aimed specifically at any wrongdoings they have done.

Consider crippling their financial capabilities by freezing all their assets. Let them all work and struggle like normal citizens instead of loafing on the streets and disrupting our lives with their demented philosophies. If possible, consider charging them with sabotaging the economy.

Otherwise, they could well cynically engage in scorning and smirking at our justice system while spewing all kinds of threats.

… What we need to in our country is for the govt to claim all their ill-gotten wealth which was stolen from the people. They must be brought to court and jailed. Or find them guity first then let the do the rest. These people are subversive and treasonable.
