[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW]
Lautan itu milik siapa?
Lautan bukan milik kaya
Bukan milik yang berkuasa
Bukan milik si peniaga
yang hanya memandang dunia
bagai modal bagai harta.
Lautan itu kehidupan
Bukan barang jual beli
atau tempat spekulasi
Lautan itu kebebasan
Lautan bukan milik elit
untuk diisikan konkrit
Lautan itu berkat Tuhan
Demi marhaen demi rakyat
Demi makhluk sejagat
Bukannya demi syarikat
Bukannya demi korporat
Bukan demi ketamakan
Bukan demi penambakan
Bukan demi pemakaman
mayat-mayat ikan-ikan.
Lautan itu milik siapa?
Lautan milik kita semua,
milik seluruh manusia.
Teluk Kumbar, Sungai Batu
Milik siapa pantai itu?
Ia milik kaum tempatan
Pantai itu milik nelayan!

Who Does The Ocean Belong To?
Whose is the ocean, pray?
The sea is not for the wealthy’s sway,
Nor the dominion of the powerful’s play,
Not for the merchant’s display,
Who only sees the world as a foray,
As mere capital, a wealth array.
The ocean is life’s vital domain,
Not a commodity for profit’s reign,
Or a place for speculative gain,
The ocean is freedom’s terrain,
Not the elite’s possession to attain,
With concrete and profit to sustain.
The ocean is a blessing from the Divine,
For the common folk, for all to define,
For the creatures of the earth and brine,
Not for corporations’ bottom-line,
Not for greed or shoreline incline,
Not for burial of fish, a watery shrine.
Whose is the ocean, who can say?
The sea belongs to us each day,
To all of humankind, come what may,
Teluk Kumbar, Sungai Batu’s bay,
Whose is the beach in its gentle display?
It belongs to the locals, the fishermen’s stay.
